This piece speaks to a truth too often buried beneath ceremony and politics: Te Tiriti o Waitangi was never meant to blind Māori — it was meant to protect rangatiratanga, partnership, and dignity. Yet here, the Treaty is placed across the eyes like a blindfold, symbolising generations of promises obscured, ignored, and rewritten by those in power.

The gaze hidden behind the Treaty reflects how Māori voices have been silenced while their rights are continually debated instead of honoured. This is not just about history — it is about an ongoing struggle against the erosion of Indigenous sovereignty, language, land, and self-determination.

This piece I created over the past few weeks, watching it come to life bit by bit and finally being able to share with everyone.
